A one times Senatorial Aspirant under the umbrella of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for Funtua Constituency in Katsina State, Zaharaddeen Babba Mazoji has slammed the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) on Monday against the it’s ongoing nationwide strike.

Mazoji, who strongly condemns the decision of the union said they always care about their leaders not the innocent people that are being killed on a daily basis in some parts of Northern Nigeria especially Katsina, Zamfara, Sokoto, Niger and some parts of Kaduna States.

Mazoji decried the idea of NLC that had foisted “so much hardship” on the people making an “unconscionable” Strike that rewarded the leadership of the so called union to the detriment of the poor.

“What this means all this while is that the NLC leaders are seeking ways of robbing very poor Nigerians who are been killed and kidnap, with all this there is no time that NLC call for strike in order to cub the bandits and all sorts of criminals and criminalities in northern part of this country, they only care about their leaders when ever something happen to them.”

Mazoji emphasises that “there is no other way to explain to the innocent people that NLC doesn’t have any recognition of the situation where people are sleeping half way, and now the union always pretends by calling for National strike which we believe is for their own interest.”

The two major labour unions, NLC and TUC, had declared the strike, following the brutalisation of the NLC president, Joe Ajaero, in Imo State on 1 November. Mr Ajaero was attacked in Owerri, the state capital, during an NLC protest against the Imo State government over alleged maltreatment of workers in the state.

The unions on Monday directed their members to down tools across the country as from Tuesday. This is despite the restraining order issued by the National Industrial Court, in Abuja, on Friday, stopping the labour unions from embarking on the strike

Mazoji reminds the NLC about hardship, insecurity, high prices of essential commodities and consistent killing of innocent people adding that “all this doesn’t ever concern the labour union, they only care with the life and future of their leaders, this is very sympathetic,” he concluded.
