The Commandant Nigerian Defence Academy, Maj General IM Yusuf, has today 24 January 2023 decorated the newly appointed Academy Regimental Sergeant Major (RSM), Master Warrant Officer Idris Muhammad. The event, which held at the NDA Drill Shed Afaka, witnessed the presence of senior officers, soldiers and civilian staff of the Academy, as well as friends and family of the appointee
The newly appointed Academy RSM, MWO Idris Muhammad was Born on 2nd April 1972 in Sabon Birni Sokoto State. He attended Model Primary School Sabon Birni before proceeding to Government Secondary School Sabon Birni for his secondary education. He was enlisted into the Nigerian Army as a member of 35 Regular Intake in 1993.
The Newly appointed Academy RSM has undergone various courses commensurate to his rank, excelling in most of these courses. He was posted to the Nigerian Defence Academy in 2003 as a Drill Instructor. Since then he has held various appointments including Academy Drill Sergeant, a position he held until his appointment as Academy RSM.
In his remarks, the Commandant, Nigerian Defence Academy, Maj Gen IM Yusuf, disclosed that the Academy RSM is an important appointment which comes with a lot of responsibilities. He declared further that the criteria for selecting the Academy RSM is not based on seniority but on vital criteria which MWO Idris Muhammad possess. He added that out of the many that where recommended from various units of the Nigerian Army, and were subsequently interviewed in Abuja, MWO Muhammad was selected and his appointment was approved by the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt Gen Farouq Yahaya.
Speaking further, Maj Gen IM Yusuf commended the Academy RSM for his dedication and hardwork throughout his stay in the Academy, which he noted has led to this new appointment. While buttressing that elevation comes from God, the Commandant congratulated MWO Idris Muhammad for the well deserved appointment. He also prayed for God to continue to bless, guide and protect him as he assumes his new appointment.
MWO Idris Muhammad took over from AWO Sa’ad Mohammed who recently proceeded on retirement after 35 years of meritorious service to the Nigerian Army.
