AGILE, CSACEFA Commemorates International Education Day

Kano State office of Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) project has celebrated 2023 International Day of Education (IED) with students from public schools.

The event featured paper presentations on supporting girls in STEM a call and ICT by lecturers from Bayero University.

In his address Kano state Commissioner for Education, Alhaji Ya’u Abdullahi Yan’shana, charged teachers to redouble their efforts in discharging their responsibilities to move education to international standards.

‘Yanshana who was represented by the Executive Secretary, Kano state Senior Secondary Schools Management Board (KSSSMB), Dr. Bello Shehu, said the state government had mapped out policies and programs aimed at boosting education, which includes free and compulsory education, inclusive education, teacher policy, among others.

He described AGILE as an initiative that had boosted students academic performance, and charged them to be good ambassadors by utilizing their potential to become journalists, teachers, medical doctors, engineers and professionals.

Similarly, the Civil Society Action Coalition on Education For All (CSACEFA) throught it’s Secretary, Mahadi Muhd Abdullahi said, the celebration of IDE begins in Nov. 11, 2008.

“As we are all aware Education is a human right, a public good and public responsibility. The UN general Assembly proclaimed Jan 24 as IDE. This year’s theme is “Invest in people, prioritize Education”.

“However, the purpose of celebration of the day is to generate discussion to strengthen Education support learners and teachers and unlock potentials in every person so as to contribute towards self actualization, and development of society.

“The objective of our gathering here to celebrate IED is to keep doing our part in Kano and Nigeria to make education available and accessible to the girl child.

“As we join the rest of the world to celebrate International Day of Education on January 24, CSACEFA through AGILE call on government and all other key stakeholders to put more alternative measures in place that ensure no child is found out of school when they are supposed to be in school most especially the girl child.”
