Newgate College of Health Technology Minna was established in 2014 as the first private mono-technique in Niger state built in a bid to augment governments effort towards the training and provision of essential and middle level health professional practitioners needed in the primary health care service delivery system.
The College started with 5 programmes namely: Diploma in Community Health (CHEW), Environmental Health Management, Human Nutrition & Dietetics as well as Certificate in Community Health (JCHEW). In the year 2016, National Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology and HND Public Health Nursing Programmes were introduced fully and duly accredited.
Subsequently, Anesthesia Technician and Pharmacy Technician programmes were approved in 2018 while Diploma in Biomedical Sciences and Health Education Programmes were introduced in 2019. HND in Health Information Management was introduced in 2020 and HND in Nutrition and Dietetics followed suit in 2021.
Currently, the College got the approval to mount ND Community Health and thus the college now has a total number of 9 accredited National Diploma programmes and Higher National Diploma programmes and two certificate programmes.
In its resolve for quality assurance, the management since inception has ensured constant fulfilment of requirements for periodic reaccreditation by relevant regulatory bodies from both Federal and State Governments.
The College also runs affiliation programmes with the following institutions: Islamic University in Uganda, Kwara State University and Kaduna Polytechnic (KADPOLY).
In the same vein, the college has partnership with: Joint Admission Matriculation Board (JAMB), National Youth Service Corps, Newgate Consult and Kampala International University.
As part of its corporate social responsibilities, Newgate College has established links with the surrounding communities in its catchment and immediate environs which includes: Kpakungu, Gidan Kwano, Gidan Magoro, Gidan Allura communities for provision of community health services and other programmes for the promotion of good health in the society.
The College also intends to spread out community outreaches to other L. G. A. in the State and extend programmes to other states as part of its future plans in: Sensitization on Virus Safety and Prevention, Malaria Prevention, Management and Control and HIV/AID Education and Managements.
The college is well equipped with modern facilities and equipment to facilitate effective learning and comprehension with fully equipped Laboratories (Medical Teaching Laboratory, Anatomy laboratory, Chemistry laboratory, Physics laboratory and Biology laboratory) as well as a School Demonstration Clinic and Maternity Home.
In its objective to train professional health practitioners, Newgate College has an extensive number of qualitative and competent staff with expertise beyond paper qualifications. The staff straight constitutes the Academic and non-academic staff ranging from administrative staff, secretaries, security men, cleaners and nannies drawn across regional and religious divide.
The college has graduated a quite number of students from various departments since 2016 when the first Convocation was held to 2021 when it recently held her 6th Convocation ceremony.
